Fashion Week Columbus’s annual showcase is now under way. Since 2010, the event continues is mission to grow the fashion industry and community in Central Ohio. The week kicked off with the 12th Annual High Fashion Tea Runway Show on Sunday at Le Meridien Columbus, The Joseph, and will conclude this Saturday with the 12th Annual Finale Runway Show at 6pm at Gravity.
The season marks the first production of Fashion Week Columbus as a founding member of CFDA Connects. According to labor market research company EMSI, which conducted a study in 2016, Columbus ranks third in the number of resident fashion designers — trailing New York and Los Angeles, respectively. From its debut, Fashion Week Columbus (the flagship program of the Columbus Fashion Council founded by Thomas McClure) has impacted the Central Ohio community by platforming and developing over 135 emerging fashion designers, providing more than 1,300 models exposure to prominent agencies, awarding over $32,500 in scholarships to fashion design students, creating networking opportunities for and upwards of 2000 volunteers, and producing 135 fashion shows with emerging and local designers.
“Fashion Week Columbus has been a staple for Central Ohio designers, models, industry professionals, and volunteers to launch their careers and passions,” Fashion Week Columbus Program Director Nia Noelle said.
This year’s runway shows feature five local designers who were selected based on collections that reflected the best technical skills, salability, being on-trend, and overall cohesiveness to showcase during this week-long affair. The finale runway show designers include:
New York-based designer Alex Vinash is the headliner for the Saturday’s finale runway show. Vinash will showcase both ready-to-wear and couture pieces, along with the now-famous white feather cape and suit worn by FX’s hit series POSE star Billy Porter on the 2020 Golden Globes red carpet. Christian Cowan was the headliner in 2019.
