This month’s New York Fashion Week season was filled with thrills and surprises. From Beyoncé at Luar to Thom Browne’s theatrical Edgar Allan Poe-inspired show, this was an especially exciting week. At the center of the action: fashion editors who tirelessly jet from show to show to be in the fashion trenches. Whether it’s writing reviews, supporting their favorite designers, or shooting content, they have a front row seat to all of the week’s most exciting shows and events.
Lensed by photographer Bukunmi Grace on the streets of New York, we caught up with a few to find out what their most inspiring NYFW moment was.
TAYLOR LASHLEY
Social Media Editor, VOGUE
“Attending New York Fashion Week for work will always be a “pinch me” moment. I think the most inspiring aspect from this past season was attending the Black in Fashion Council’s NYFW discovery showroom and meeting the designers that were featured. While the runway shows are always fun, connecting with the people behind the brands will always hit different.”
DALE ARDEN CHONG
Senior Fashion Editor, ELLE
“While I love admiring the latest collections as much as anyone else (and just taking in the craft of each piece!), I’m always inspired by what attendees are wearing. And when we’re sharing who designed what, it’s so clear how passionate everyone is about the subject—which makes me appreciate fashion as art, because of its effect on its wearers, even more.”
ELISEE BROWCHUK
Marketing & Events Manager – Experiences, VOGUE
“This season, it’s been so incredible to see the fashion community come together to support the next generation of designers. Rain, snow, or shine, the unwavering energy and support at shows, presentations, and parties was remarkable.”
HALEY GILBREATH
Fashion Editor, GQ Magazine
“Each NYFW season, I am consistently inspired by Willy Chavarria’s close-knit New York community and the always anticipated Thom Browne masterpiece in storytelling. But one unexpected moment in particular that struck me this season was Batsheva’s casting of women all over the age of 40. Each model walked, strutted, skipped or danced proudly; their individual unique personalities charming the audience. I couldn’t help but want to know their stories. As I tend to dread getting older myself, I smiled at the realization that these women are absolutely thriving. Thank you for inspiring us to age and for celebrating women of all ages.”
CASSANDRA PINTRO
Digital Producer, VOGUE
“This season was full of surprises, including the Beyoncé of it all. However, I’m constantly inspired by emerging designers who are able to really showcase their point of view through all of the noise.”
