Everything Bridal with Amsale Aberra

April 6, 2017

Amsale Aberra married to Neil Brown in 1985 at Montclair, New Jersey ‘s Trinity Episcopal Church, where Brown was an altar boy through his childhood. “It was a wonderful feeling to exchange vows in a place that had a history for us,” says the designer. We asked her about her dress, her favorite memories and some advice she has in store for brides-to-be.

Describe your wedding gown and why you chose this particular design?

My wedding gown was a balance of traditional with a touch of fashion. When I first got engaged, the designer in me wanted to wear something high-fashion and true to my style. However, through making our wedding plans, I realized it was important to me to wear something that resonated more with the guests attending, which were mostly family. I opted for something a bit more traditional and appropriate for our setting.

What is your favorite memory of your wedding?

This is always a hard question for me. There was so much excitement leading up to the wedding that when the day came, it went by so fast that it all seems to be one big blur when I look back. I remember looking around the room at some point and feeling so overjoyed having seen everything come together. My family from Ethiopia, Neil’s family, and our very best friends were all smiling and so happy to share in this moment with us.

What is the main piece of advice you would give to brides?

Always keep your focus and be true to what will make this day most special for you and your groom. There is no “perfect” wedding, only a wedding that can be “perfect” for you.
