Don Juan Meets Desert Solitaire at Altuzarra

September 11, 2022

Marc Karimzadeh

Joseph Altuzarra cited The Teachings of Don Juan and Desert Solitaire as inspirations for spring— references the designer astutely translated into a beautiful lineup.

The CFDA member knows how to take the functional and make it desirable, here with captivating layering, interesting color play, Shibori tie-dyes, and lots of beaded, coin, fringe and tassel details, all of which exuded a distinct Berber vibe, an Altuzarra favorite.

In this show notes, the designer noted that the collection “charts the path to mysticism, blurring lines between man and nature, the physical and spiritual.”  He soulfully riffed on sportswear in new, powerful ways, reworking his signature parka in cocoon shapes, intricately layering cable knits with cotton shirting, and elevating slouchy denim ensembles to high-style levels.  In a word, beautiful.
