Basso cites “the strength and grace of great American families across the generations” as inspirations for Spring 2024. “Icons of American Style, these confident, free-spirited women embody the freshness and vivaciousness of new world glamour,” he said. And nobody defines this better as his close friend and season muse Cornelia Guest – daughter of late icon C.Z. Guest, Warhol and Halston friend, Studio 54 regular – who closed his show on Monday afternoon in a black lace embroidered gown with blue double-faced organza. It was an uptown moment, punctuating a pretty and glamourous collection that mixed eveningwear with strong tailoring, jumpsuits, and one-shouldered numbers. As Basso put it, these clothes are for women who are “ready for anything, free of restraint, poised to take on the world with panache. These are our American Beauties.”
