As NYFW is soon upon us, CFDA is sharing the following information on the Coronavirus from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). If you have any specific questions, please email Ricky Wong at rwong3@health.nyc.gov
It is important that as we address this outbreak, we separate facts from fear and guard against stigma. There are a lot of things on social media and in the news that are, at best, not rooted in science, and, at worst, offensive, demeaning, and racist. We need to encourage everyone to keep their attention on the facts.
What we know now:
- The risk to New Yorkers is low.
- There are ZERO cases of the novel Coronavirus in NYC.
- A total of six cases have been confirmed in the United States; none in New York State (as of 1/30/20).
What should New Yorkers Do?
- Go about your daily lives.
- Practice same precautions that you would during cold and flu season.
- Cover your mouth/nose with tissue/sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands with soap and warm water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- If you feel sick, stay home.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- If you have recently traveled in Wuhan, China and have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, call your health care provider right away
- At this time, New Yorkers DO NOT need to:
- Limit travel within the city
- Wear a face mask if healthy. Face masks are only recommended if directed by a health care provider.
- Change anything about where you get your food or how you prepare it.
- Avoid public gatherings and public transportation.
- Business and leisure travel in the U.S. and to NYC can and should continue as normal.
