Amber Valletta, one of fashion’s most well-known faces, and Amy Johnson are frequent collaborators at Master & Muse, Valletta’s premier online store that bridges the gap between cutting-edge fashion and mindful manufacturing. The two believe that substance and style do not have to be mutually exclusive – a notion they bring along as they mentor the 10 designers of the CFDA + Lexus Fashion * Initiative.
CFDA caught up with Valletta and Johnson and asked them for their joint wishes for the initiative, fashion’s future and how we can inspire change to create a more sustainable future.
One wish for the CFDA + Lexus Fashion * Initiative journey:
Our wish for the program’s journey is that more brands will be inspired to walk this path of sustainability, knowing they do not have to do it alone.
One wish for fashion’s future:
Our wish for fashion’s future is that sustainability is viewed in a more holistic way – not only in materials, but also in the fashion calendar, production and supply chain pressures.
Who and what is most valuable in leading us to change?
The responsibility lies on the creatives and their businesses. When designing, producing and selling new products, the brands must have the understanding that the profit only model is destructive. Modern business must consider the well-being of people and the planet. Influencers – designers, bloggers and celebrities – must help spread this message to the consumer to change their buying habits.
How would you define sustainable fashion?
Sustainable fashion is when all aspects of design, production, sales and use are fully considered to benefit and not harm people and planet. #responsiblymade #buybetter.
