Kendra Scott is grateful for all the support she received from Austin, Texas over the years. It is where she started her business and it is the place she calls home today. The growing population has made Scott optimistic about the future of the city and its success. Here, Scott provides some of her favorite destinations for both indoor and outdoor activities.
FAVORITE THINGS: What I love most about Austin is that it is a city that supports its own. Austin is my home, and I have watched it grow tremendously in my years here, but that sense of community has never changed. Austin’s strong support and embrace of local businesses is what gave my own business its wings to fly. I will be forever grateful for that.
LEAST FAVORITE THINGS: You’ve no doubt heard the negative comments about Austin’s rapid growth – the fast rate of people moving here, the heavy traffic… Some people choose to view these as bad things, but personally, I could not be more thrilled to watch this city grow and thrive. Austin is evolving into a true business and fashion capital, and the occasional traffic jam is a price I gladly pay to be at the center of its success!
MUST DO: A picnic at Zilker Park. Outdoor activities are my family’s absolute favorite way to spend a weekend in Austin, and there is no shortage of options. With this city’s gorgeous weather, we find plenty of opportunities to pack up a lunch and our picnic blankets, load our three boys and two dogs into the car, and head out for a day of relaxation in the sun.
MUST SEE: The sun setting over Lady Bird Lake. In the summer, my boys and I love to watch it from the water after a fun afternoon of kayaking. With the downtown skyline behind you, and those beautiful colors lighting up the Austin sky, there is nothing quite like it.
WHERE TO EAT: Uchiko. It’s my husband’s and my favorite date night spot and has been for years. Of course, we love to try out the new restaurants popping up left and right, but for us, nothing has beaten a night of sushi and good wine at Uchiko…yet!
WHERE TO CHILL: Irene’s outdoor patio in downtown Austin. Irene’s is relatively new to the Austin scene, but it didn’t take long at all for this spot to become one of my favorites. The weekend brunch menu is amazing, and the charming patio has become our go-to place for after work celebrations.
BEST STREET STYLE: If you’re looking for a little street style inspiration, just take a walk down South Congress. It’s my favorite historic Austin area filled with great places to explore, eat and shop (like our flagship store, for example!). Not to mention it’s one of the most walkable areas of town, so you’re sure to spot some fresh outfit ideas on the sidewalks.
