September 5, 2019

Fashion doesn’t just happen on the runways. It’s also present all over the city, including our museums, which currently have some must-see exhibitions on show. Find some time between shows to check them out!

You have seen the red carpet looks from the Met Gala, now view the exhibition that the gala celebrated while you still can. Camp: Notes on Fashion is a delightful fashion romp – think Bob Mackie, Jeremy Scott, Thom Browne and even Phoebe Philo via the lilac mink heels she designed for Céline. Camp ends this coming Sunday, September 8, so run, don’t walk!

Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion

Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion at Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkwy

Marking the legendary French designer’s first New York retrospective in 40 years, Future Fashion reveals how Cardin’s avant-garde designs have pushed the industry’s boundaries for over seven decades. At 97,he remains curious about what’s next, what’s new, and what’s in our collective future. His prediction: “In 2069, we will all walk on the moon or Mars wearing my ‘Cosmocorps’ ensembles. Women will wear Plexiglas cloche hats and tube clothing, men will wear elliptical pants and kinetic tunics.” Only time will tell, but for now, visit www.brooklynmuseum.org to book advance tickets today.

Less-is-more versus excess – the interplay between the two forms of fashion expression is at the core of this exhibition. The showcase begins with 18th Century fashions, and designer looks on display range from Narciso Rodriguez to Comme des Garcons, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, Thierry Mugler, and Versace.
