Angelina Jolie made headlines when she added “designer” as a new title to her extensive resume last month. The actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian made a venture into fashion with the launch of Atelier Jolie, a new purpose-driven brand that will utilize deadstock and tap into the abilities of “refugees and other talented, under-appreciated groups, with positions of dignity based on skill.”
For one the brand’s first collaborations, Jolie tapped Chloé Creative Director Gabriela Hearst for an exclusive womenswear collection of feminine ready-to-wear pieces. Jolie was drawn to the brand’s commitment to social and environmental sustainability and network of international artisans. The brand became one of the few fashion labels to achieve B-Corp certification in 2021 and has also worked with leaders such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the World Fair Trade Organization.
“From the moment I heard about Angelina’s vision for Atelier Jolie, I believed in it,” Gabriela Hearst, a CFDA member, said. “It is a way to elevate others through the beauty of garment-making and her deep respect for the environment. It’s an honor for me that Chloé will be the first collaborator for Atelier Jolie, as both have high ideals for the betterment of our species. That is the reason why I love both Angelina and Chloé so deeply.”
The capsule collection has a focus on eveningwear, inspired by pieces from Jolie’s own wardrobe. The collection will showcase the work of artisans from a Fair Trade enterprise and spotlight female led social enterprises, while utilizing deadstock fabrics and lower-impact materials.
With fluid silhouettes and tactile details, the capsule collection has an eveningwear focus and a timeless aesthetic inspired by perennial pieces from Jolie’s own well-loved wardrobe. Parts of the collection showcase the work of artisans from a Fair Trade enterprise and spotlight female led social enterprises, while multiple looks make use of deadstock and lower-impact materials.
“It was important to me to work with Chloé, one of the first luxury brands to be a B Corp.,” Jolie said. “It has been a privilege to design with Gabriela Hearst, and I hope all women will feel comfortable and beautiful in this capsule collection.”
