Our plan was to go to Melbourne for a day, then fly overnight to Shenzhen for two days and finish off with three days in Hong Kong. I took off with my daughter Kit for the first leg, while a bunch of people from our team flew to China with about a million trunks of clothes and accessories.
The first night, Kit and I landed in Melbourne without a hitch, changed in the airport bathroom from airplane leggings into evening gowns, and put pedal to the metal to get to a dinner to celebrate Melbourne Fashion Festival. We chatted with the other amazing designers participating in Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, who had flown in from all around the world. We finished our night off on the early side and headed back to the hotel to get unpacked and get some much-needed rest.
“Ring” “Ring” “Ring” – next thing we know its six in the morning and our wake-up call jolts us out of bed for a conference, where I spoke alongside Rachel Muscat, the powerhouse woman behind Adidas’s coolest collaborations. It was so nice to look out into the audience and see Kit there beaming at me.
After the conference, we headed to Harrolds for a party for the CR pop-up shop, went sightseeing, and ended the night with the Harper’s Bazaar fashion show for Melbourne Fashion Week. We saw so many incredible Australian brands! Instead of going back to the hotel and having much-needed sleep, we went straight from the show to the airport to fly overnight to Shenzhen.
We landed early in the morning, and after figuring out a case of lost luggage (which had more accessories for our runway show), we went straight into a full day of castings and fittings. We got the most gorgeous local Chinese models and the collection looked amazing on them. The very next day, our fall 2017 collection show went on in front of hundreds of influencers and top dogs in the Chinese fashion industry.
By the time we left Shenzhen to head to Hong Kong, we felt as if we hadn’t slept in a week. Luckily, for the next few days we had some much needed free time. But of course, we didn’t want to miss anything. We surfed at Big Wave Bay, explored Stanley market, discovered a rooftop dessert bar, and dined at Hong Kong’s China Club. All in all, we did not waste a single second on our trip around the world in much less than 80 days.
