An accessory by definition is that “which can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive.” To define a fashion accessory, however, would be nearly impossible. Though the usual suspects like clutches, cuffs and caps still apply, of course, designers continue to push boundaries and in result, innovate perceptions of what we deem fashion, in style or even wearable today.

Highlighting five accessory designers doing the absolute most, the CFDA nominees for Accessories Designer of the Year are Jennifer Fisher of Jennifer Fisher Jewelry, Virgil Abloh of Off-White, Mary Kate and Ashley Olson of The Row, Tabitha Simmons and Telfar Clemens of Telfar. From conceptual cowboy boots to clogs with an agenda, members of our staff made their selection of top accessories from our roster of nominated designers.
