CFDA Addresses Bad-Faith Trademark Issues in China

October 15, 2018

As designers become increasingly reliant on Chinese consumers, they need to be even more cognizant of Bad-Faith Trademark registration issues that can occur. The CFDA took initiative on this matter by conducting case studies and compiling a report to present to the Chinese government.

In tandem with the reports, Steven Kolb, President and Chief Executive Officer of CFDA and Douglas Hand, a partner at Hand Baldachin Associates, CFDA’s legal representative, took a trip to China for a series of meetings with Chinese government officials about IP challenges facing American fashion brands.

The report and case studies were well-received by China’s government officials, who understood CFDA’s concern and will continue in its efforts to better understand the issues faced by overseas brands when selling in China.
