The Scintillator. Encoded and powered by LED light, the glittering must-have metal evening clutch, designed by Lisa Perry and artist Leo Villareal, was celebrated with CFDA’s Steven Kolb at the Perry home on Thursday night.
“We are very proud of it,” Perry, a major art collector, said of the sculptural piece that brings together computer and light technology.
“You saw the powder room,” she noted, referring to the glittery light installation by Villareal in her home. “I would look at that room a lot and ask, ‘Can that be an evening bag?’ Two years later, I think we have one of the most beautiful objects I think I have ever seen.”
The dinner guests – among them Villareal’s wife Yvonne Force, Amy Astley, Leandra Medine, Sharon Hurwitz, Donna and Ben Rosen, Jane Holzer and Daniella Vitale – agreed.
“I want a man-bag version of it for myself, and for Richard [Perry, Lisa’s husband],” said Simon Doonan.
The limited edition “wearable art” bag was designed and produced in New York City. A portion of the proceeds of sales designed and produced in New York City will support the CFDA and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI), an investment fund to preserve, nurture and elevate fashion manufacturing in New York City and connect fashion designers to local resources.
The numbered limited edition 75-piece collection, at $2,995 each, launched at Perry’s Madison Avenue boutique, www.lisaperrystyle.com, and select Barneys New York stores —where they are already sold out. “We saved two for the opening of Barneys downtown on Monday,” Perry told her guests.
The night ended with ice cream sundaes replete. “You have to make your own sundaes,” Perry said. “Here’s whipped cream and take some sprinkles. Do your sparkles.” Perfectly scintillating.
