28 Black Fashion Forces: Shiona Turini

February 22, 2019

When you think of Shiona Turini, the first thing that may come to mind is her street style. She is a favorite of photographers, who shoot her looking impeccable as she enters or leaves fashion shows. Of course, there’s so much more to Turini. It’s fair to call her a fashion tour de force.

Her first foray into the business was as an intern at Yves Saint Laurent. She made a name for herself, and the rest is fashion herstory! Stints at W magazine, Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and CR Magazine followed. She’s worked with Solange Knowles on Don’t Touch My Hair and Cranes in the Sky, and was a stylist on Beyoncé’s iconic Formation video. Determination was definitely the name of her game, and fashion was definitely her destiny.

Turini’s work as a costume designer led her to wardrobe season 3 of HBO’s Emmy-nominated Insecure produced by and starring Issa Rae.

Turini is a fashion expert, who is well-respected and in demand – and deserving of the recognition!

Editor’s Note: In honor of Black History Month, we highlight some of the most influential forces in fashion, in no specific order. Their impact on the culture is undeniable – and we use this time to tip our hats off to their Black excellence.
