28 Black Fashion Forces: Kerby Jean-Raymond

February 4, 2019

Karyl J. Truesdale

Kerby Jean-Raymond is a clothing designer at the forefront of a movement. He brought a powerful new voice to New York Fashion Week, especially in September. Held in Weeksville and featuring a Gospel choir, guests stood in the rain, many awed and moved to tears by the experience. The 2018 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner, Reebok collaborator, and social activist puts it best on one of his own T-shirts: “If you are just learning about Pyer Moss, we forgive you!”

Editor’s Note: In honor of Black History Month, we highlight some of the most influential forces in fashion, in no specific order. Their impact on the culture is undeniable – and we use this time to tip our hats off to their Black excellence.
