“For my Fall-Winter 2024 collection,” designer Bishme Cromartie said, “I further explored my obsession of mixing streetwear with Avant Garde designs.
“I continued to define what ‘Street Garde’ is by staying true to my aesthetic and testing new ideas,” he added.
The designer did exactly that during last month’s New York Fashion Week, on a cold, post-blizzard afternoon at The Ritz-Carlton NoMad. He showed 20 looks in a presentation of vignettes, which proved an effective way to convey his ethos. Big collar jackets an zipup bombers, cargos, ruffle tops and skirts – the latter in a fabulous red – added glamour to the theme and played to his aesthetic which he considers “boundary-breaking, fun, daring, romantic, and socially conscious.”
A native of Baltimore, Cromartie started sketching at age 8, and, according to his bio, learned the basics of sewing from his aunt, making clothes for friends and family once he had a sewing machine.
Cromartie, who won Project Runway All-Stars season 20, was mentored by the CFDA as part of a partnership with the popular series.
The Bishme Cromartie woman, he said, is “ready for change, constantly on the go and loves to stand out, no matter where she is. This season we are entering the Batrix.”
Mission accomplished.
