While studying PR and advertising at City College of New York, the first experiences for Anthony Brooks, the Founder of Anthony Brooks Consultant (ABC), came through college internships. He moved to NYC in 2011 and ascended from cold-calling during a key internship at a boutique agency to scoring a promotion as showroom manager.
From 2015 to 2016, he cut his teeth with brands like Loewe and JW Anderson and was later offered a full-time role, eventually becoming a manager at PR Consulting. Over the course of four years, he contributed to brands like Wales Bonner, Marine Serre, and SSENSE.
“I have focused less on the hardships and more on the positives and the great work we are accomplishing. I am committed to continuing to foster a strong community, as it plays a huge role in expressing gratitude,” Brooks stated. “Community is one of the main pillars of success in any area of life. You cannot achieve much on your own; it is about who you have in your network—those who root for you and stand by your side when things get tough.”
In the last decade, he has built a network of industry professionals, keeping in touch with editors and stylists for feedback, and staying adaptable in the evolving fashion landscape.
“I had big dreams when I moved here, and owning my own business was always a goal. It happened faster than I expected, but with my experience and background, I feel there’s only room to grow,” Brooks stated. “I have always felt I stood out from my peers, able to genuinely connect with people. My company grew organically, and all my clients came through referrals, which I am proud of. I believe my work ethic, drive, generosity, and ability to build strong relationships are what set me apart in this industry.”
As a first-generation American – he is the son of a Guyanese mother and Jamaican father – Brooks has been inspired by his family to create his own blueprint and define success on his terms.
Brooks explained, “100 percent of me is invested in this company. It is entirely self-funded and independent. I started ABC with my own money, right from my apartment. I do not come from generational wealth, trust funds, or any financial safety nets.
“My roots come from a family of immigrants—my four grandparents moved to America, working hard to get by and provide for their families, ultimately creating better lives for themselves. I am incredibly thankful for the values my family instilled in me—the drive to conquer the American dream. This company represents my hard work; it is everything to me.”
