The CFDA and Genesis House are excited to launch the second iteration of the AAPI Design + Innovation Grant, an initiative designed to support the next generation of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) fashion designers.
The program, scheduled from August 2024 to March 2025, will offer three rising AAPI designers the opportunity to receive bespoke mentorship from notable industry leaders, a one-week inspiration trip to South Korea, and $40,000 to finance a competitive design challenge. The program will conclude with each designer presenting their collection in front of the selection committee. The winning designer will be awarded an additional $60,000 grant to use towards their business in recognition of their exceptional achievement.
For this second edition, the program challenges designers to deeply consider the question “What does innovation mean to you?” This reflection is crucial as it encourages each designer to forge a personal interpretation of innovation, thereby infusing unique perspectives into their creations. Eligible apparel designers must identify as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and have been in business for a minimum of one year. Their primary business must be based in the U.S., should employ no more than 30 full-time employees, and not exceed a total revenue of $5 million per year.
Online applications are now open and will be accepted until Friday, June 21st 5pm ET.
