Who can forget Ana Khouri’s breathtaking, one-of-a-kind high jewelry Met Gala pieces on Chloë Sevigny, Aurora James, and Linda Evangelista – the latter’s exquisite green tourmaline, white diamond and gold Phillipa earrings, being among our favorites.
Those earrings, along with other spectacular Khouri pieces, were on show at TEFAF New York at the Park Avenue Armory this past week. It marked Khouri’s second exhibition at the prestigious art market with roots in Maastricht, Holland, and part of Khouri’s annual showcase (last year’s was at Christie’s Paris).
Khouri, who crafts her pieces in New York, Paris, and Zurich, continued to explore sculptural elements with rare materials from the natural world such as wood, bringing, as she put it, “soul and artistry into a piece.” Case in point, her use of crystals to reflect light onto stones, and sculpting pieces out of large rocks.
Most of the pairings were unexpected: South sea pearls and Brazilian rosewood, and curved cuffs lined with diamonds, rock crystal and rare gems.
“The jewelry,” the collection statement stated, “highlights a woman’s body and power, accentuating shapes and creating harmony between the female form and nature.”
