Alice Temperley Spring 2020 Bridal

An English Rose loves embellishments, too—just ask Alice Temperley, the It Brit of bohemian-glam bridal fashion. Over the weekend, the designer held previews of her Spring 2020 Bridal collection, which shifted away from last season’s unexpected hues and turned to playful embroideries instead—think 3D flowers, iridescent sequins, and crystal stones galore. Temperley has a good read on what her customer wants: more shimmering statement pieces that hold the spotlight.

Indeed, this collection was not made with wallflowers in mind. The pièce de résistance took a page from Temperley’s ready-to-wear, as a best-selling dress silhouette with softly-draped shoulders and a plunging neckline was reimagined in top-to-toe platinum sequins. The sense of opulence was further reflected in the occasional pearlescent tones here, like the spangly full-sleeve, open-back ivory sheath spliced with satin-stitch flowers.

It’s worth noting that while Temperley loves all things that sparkle, she’s also great at delivering more quietly romantic pieces. This was best displayed in a strappy dress spun from light-as-air Italian jacquard with a forget-me-not motif and a full puddle train—without a sequin or bead in sight. After all, the Alice Temperley bride shines bright all on her own.
