July 18, 2025

Alexis Bittar’s first official foray into documentary filmmaking was celebrated on Thursday evening at the premiere for “Reclaim the Flag” in New York City.

The powerful 30-minute documentary features over 50 LGBTQ+ luminaries as they examine what the American flag means to them and how to reclaim it as a symbol of unity.

Attendees included interviewees featured in the film, such as Matt Bernstein and Mickey Boardman, as well as co-producer Steven Madden and executive producer Mickalene Thomas.

Fellow CFDA members Prabal Gurung and Narciso Rodriguez showed their support alongside Tommy Dorfman, Dominique Jackson, J. Harrison Ghee, Peppermint, Ann Dexter-Jones, Julie J, Frank Godchaux, Mila Jam, Matty Maggiacomo, Marti Gould Cummings and more.

Following the screening, the documentary’s emotional impact was palpable, and audience members openly shared their conflicted feelings about the American flag, a reaction that Bittar and Cohen acknowledged was precisely their intention. The filmmakers emphasized that this ongoing internal struggle represents exactly the kind of conversation we still need to have to truly reclaim the flag as a symbol that belongs to everyone.
