“The Akris défilé at New York Fashion Week is a tribute to the city and the country which helped us to become who we are now.”
So said Albert Kriemler, creative director for Akris, the St. Gallen, Switzerland fashion powerhouse that is showing in New York for one season this September.
The Spring-Summer 2017 show here will coincide with the 2016 Couture Council Luncheon on Sept.7 – Kriemler is honored with the Couture Council Award for Artistry in Fashion. The Akris show is set for Friday, Sept.9.
Akris is one of the most successful European fashion houses. Founded in 1922 and remaining in the hands of the Kriemler family, the label has become known for its luxurious double-face material, St. Gallen guipure embroidery and ultra-sophisticated digital photo printing techniques.
Kriemler stressed that he remains fully committed to the Chambre Syndicale and Paris, where the house has shown since 2004. Akris is a member of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode since 1996.
As Kriemler put it, “The departure in our défilé for this season offers a unique opportunity to rethink seasonality and the rhythm of collections and défilés in an environment where everybody is discussing new concepts.”
