New York Fashion Week: Bridal is here, and for the occasion, we spoke to a few CFDA members about their inspirations, today’s bride, and why they love designing for her. Here, Reem Acra.
What is your inspiration this season?
I was inspired by the book The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. His words and wisdom are so effortless when describing love and marriage. I wanted to emphasize, through my gowns, the poetry of love, the magical and mystical emotion and beauty that are so hard to put into words.
How has the bride evolved in the last years?
My clients are women of all ages and types, but they have many things in common. They are strong, intelligent, and self-assured. There is a striking combination of modernity and tradition with a Reem Acra woman, and we always strive to strike a perfect balance between the two. We are very active on social media, but we also honor traditional methods of working with brides in our boutique, and many of our dresses are made by hand. We are a nimble, modern company, and can cater to the best of all worlds.
Finally, what’s your favorite part about being a bridal designer?
I love working with brides. I love being a part of the big day and creating magic and memories that will last a lifetime. It creates a very special relationship to design a wedding gown for a woman.
