As CFDA counts down to New York Fashion Week: Bridal, which begins on Thursday, we spoke to a few CFDA members about their inspirations, today’s bride, and why they love designing for her. Here, Monique Lhuillier.
What is your inspiration this season?
Spring 2019 is an ode to classic romanticism. There is a range of majestic, statement-making pieces, from a minimal crepe, column gown to a long, sheer cathedral-length show stopper – enchanting gowns fit for royalty.
How has the bride evolved in the last years?
Brides are savvier now more than ever. They are very educated on trends and have their Pinterest boards filled with inspiration upon entering our boutiques. They do their research and are open to pushing the boundaries to make their weddings unique and memorable.
Finally, what’s your favorite part about being a bridal designer?
The thing I enjoy most about designing my bridal collections is the pure fantasy of seeing the gowns come to life. I always envision the woman wearing each gown, knowing it is special, sentimental and will be in her life forever.
