A Garden Celebration Inspires Dennis Basso’s 40th Milestone Show

September 12, 2022

Dennis Basso marked his 40th anniversary with a language he’s fluent in: enchanted glamour.

As he approached the milestone, the designer imagined an evening in a beautiful garden. “Whether my own path of heaven in Watermill or other great American gardens, these are cocktail dresses, gowns, palazzo pants, and slim trousers inspired by their alluring luster and elegant forms,” the CFDA member said in his show notes about clothes that “shimmer like petals in the summer landscape” and were “designed to grace terraces and patios, sweeping from dining room to garden room.”

Basso designs for women who seek a sophisticated glamour, from sweet short cocktail  dresses to embroidered ball gowns. His front row – star Jones, Candace Bushnell, aka the original Carrie Bradshaw, Kris Jenner, Dee Ocleppo – joined the standing ovation at The Pierre Hotel, with Martha Stewart joining Basso for the runway moment.

These, Basso said, are dresses that “deliver on the promise that every woman should be the most beautiful bloom in her own garden.” Who wouldn’t want to be that?

Here’s to the next 40m, DB!
