You know it’s not your typical fashion show when it comes with a high-octane performance. Witness Monday’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund fashion show, a first for the awards dinner (in past years, the show took place in LA). There were tap dancers choreographed by Chloe Arnold of The Syncopated Ladies, Sixties Mod mavens, an acrobatic model inside a hoop suspended from the ceiling, a marriage procession, Vespas, and even a Tesla that delivered some of New York’s finest queens (as in drag ones Shangela, Serena Cha Cha, and Dakota West). But the most moving moment was the opener: a choir, led by Dario Calmese, soulfully performed a version of the 4 Non Blondes’ What’s Up. They performed on behalf of Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, who, shortly after the show, was crowned this year’s winner of the fund.
The styling of the show, by Alex Harrington, added to the inclusive spirit of the evening. The sense was heightened in the hair by Bob Recine for TIGI Copyright and Hot Tools; the makeup by Jen Myles for M·A·C Pro, and the nails by Miss Pop for Zoya Nail Polish and Treatments (Thank you all for the support!).
