Victor Glemaud Fall 2021 Look 1

Ode to Hope – there couldn’t be a timelier name for a collection. In Victor Glemaud’s hands, the ode is about the endless possibilities of knitwear, the core of his oeuvre. His show notes pointed to a design process in quarantine, prompting Glemaud to “reimagine what knitwear could do – for today’s day and age.” Mission accomplished, and fabulously so.

His home base New York, its grittiness — think yellow cabs, chain-link fences – also informed the designer, as did a photo he took of a woman with long beaded braids and a bright yellow graphic during the March on Washington.

Glemaud used innovative techniques for looks that were at once athletic and sexy. Throughout, he demonstrated his impressive range – all shown on a diverse cast of women. A single piece patchwork knit jacquard, check; knit pinstripe, check, halter and asymmetric tops, double check! Equally strong was his new footwear in collaboration with Shekudo, the Nigerian brand by by Akudo Iheakanwa. And you don’t have to wait to get that slingback or open-back clog style—they’re already available at TheRealReal.
