A great pair of heels is key to any winning red carpet look. Just ask Chloe Gosselin. Much of her chic collection of shoes is destined for the red carpet, and in time for our new CFDA Loves the Red Carpet shop at Fred Segal on Sunset Boulevard, we asked the designer about her love for the Awards season, favorite red carpet moments, and more.
What do you love the most about the Awards season?
Besides the beautiful fashion on the red carpet, I love seeing the movie industry get rewarded for its hard work. I’m passionate about movies and storytelling. I unfortunately don’t get to see everything during the year so the Awards season is the perfect time to catch up on all the great movies as well as discovering foreign movies.
Looking back, which is your all-time favorite red carpet moment and why do you love it?
With or without my shoes? Ha…I always love Cate Blanchett. She is one of my favorite actresses. I love her Armani moment at the 2014 Golden Globes styled by Elizabeth Stewart…the neckline on the lace dress and the shape of the open back. I also loved her faux bob and earrings too, incredibly chic and timeless.
With my shoes, it’s hard to pick one moment, but maybe it was Deepika Padukone at Cannes last year. She was dressed in emerald tones by Elizabeth Saltzman, in a gown by my friend Brandon Maxwell with my velvet Opia platform design. It was definitely a classic glamour moment.
This awards season, name the one celebrity who would look amazing in your designs.
I believe in building real and long relationships with stylists and celebrities, so we are very particular about people we work with [to make sure] that the girl is always a reflection of the brand. This year, I’ve started working with Nicole Kidman and her amazing stylist Julia von Boehm. I would love to see Nicole wear the shoes again this season because she embodies my dream girl for sure. She is beautiful, smart and so accomplished, plus Big Little Lies was my favorite show so it would be very special.
What is the favorite item from your collection in the CFDA Shop?
It’s hard to pick just one – they are all my babies. The three styles at Fred Segal – Narcissus, Enchysia and Larkspur – are my signatures. Larkspur is definitely very special to me as it was the first shoe I designed with the wave shape running down the foot that characterizes my designs. It is inspired by this strange leaf I found in the Bahamas. It is a very organic shape—you can definitely feel the nature element in that design. The version at Fred Segal comes in blue-gray leopard calf hair. It is very bold and one of a kind.
