Dressing From Home: Kristen Nichols

October 5, 2020

Nicky Campbell

Kristen Nichols has mastered the art of the Zoom outfit. In 2020, a year that in-person meetings are out and virtual meetings are in, most are now selecting their best outfits for an online audience. As Senior Editor of Who What Wear, it’s only natural that Nichols has found a way to make everyday outfits fabulous. The perfect mix of dressy and casual, see how the fashion expert gets dressed for the week from home.

Totême top, Frankie Shop shorts, Gia Couture x Pernille Teisbaek shoes, Young Frankk earrings, Monica Vinader necklace and bracelet, Daphine rings

Tailored separates—like this voluminous button-down and Bermuda shorts—are the backbone of my wardrobe. This top in particular has been a staple since it’s the ultimate Zoom-ready piece. And though I haven’t been wearing many tall shoes recently, I couldn’t resist adding in these amazing puffy heels.

Matteau top, Tove pants, Studio Amelia shoes, Monica Vinader Necklace, Daphine and Young Frankk rings

Here, I’m wearing a beautiful pair of trousers from Tove, a Black co-founded brand that launched last year. Their minimal, sophisticated pieces are timeless and utterly stunning. The top is from Matteau—a piece I spotted on their runway when I went to Australian fashion week for the first time last year.

Frankie Shop dress, Monica Vinader necklace, Studio Amelia shoes, Daphine and Young Frankk rings, vintage belt

Most days, I’ve been living in easy, comfortable pieces like this dress from Frankie Shop—I can’t get enough of these padded shoulders. And you’ll notice that these versatile strappy flats from Studio Amelia are one shoe I wear on repeat.

Brock Collection top, Levi’s jeans, Daphine rings, Refine scrunchie

Growing up in Arizona, jeans became a huge part of my wardrobe. I typically live in them and Levi’s 501s are the classic that have been cut to perfection for decades. While I’ve been wearing T-Shirts with denim at home recently, I was inspired to dress up for a Zoom call in this beautiful Brock Collection top—I love a dramatic sleeve.

Khaite top, Levi’s jeans, Prada shoes, Young Frankk earrings and ring, Daphine rings

NYC-based label Khaite is another one my favorite American brands. Here, I’m wearing their top with a pair of vintage Prada heels I found earlier this year. I think sustainability and giving new life to pieces from the past is more important than ever as we think about the future of fashion. These shoes were an especially great buy and get more wear than nearly any item in my closet.
