It’s been 10 years since Alexander Wang burst on the fashion scene. That’s quite a milestone, which the designer is marking in several ways this season. There’s the show on Saturday night followed by the after-party—both much-anticipated moments of NYFW: Women’s. There’s also the #WANG10 capsule collection of 10 bestsellers reissued for the occasion. Then, there is a charitable component: Wang partnered with DoSomething.org, which supports youth and social change, and, in its own words, “makes the world suck less.”
As Wang has said: “Instead of just making it about ourselves, I wanted to somehow find a way to give back. I had never teamed up with a charity before and wanted this to be meaningful.”
To draw attention to the cause, Steven Klein shot portraits of over 30 influential people whom Wang himself admires, among them Cara Delevingne, The Weeknd, Tyga, Kate Moss, Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian West, and Taraji Henson. Shot in New York, Los Angeles and London with the creative direction of Pascal Dangin of KiDS Creative, each personality, including the designer himself, wore an Alexander Wang x DoSomething T-Shirt or hoodie in their own unique way in these impactful images.
The designs are not just intended for the cast of characters though: Priced at $45 and $85 respectively, they are available at Alexander Wang stores and www.AlexanderWang.com, with half of the retail price retail sale going to DoSomething.org.
