Blue Tin Production

Founded by Hoda Katebi and lauded by Business of Fashion and Vogue, Blue Tin Production Co-Op is an apparel manufacturing workers co-operative run by immigrant, refugee, and working-class women of color in Chicago, Illinois. We cut and sew in house, do not require minimum order quantities, deliver production sustainability specs, and each member of our team boasts over ten years of industrial sewing experience across categories to satisfy luxury quality standards. Blue Tin is not only meeting global standards in sustainability, but also actively reimagining and delivering upon an in-house multi-step process to reduce waste that includes implementing unusable textiles as packing materials and for community sewing classes, and composting as part of local circular economies.

As a worker-owned and run co-operative, all of the members receive healthcare, mental health support, access to social services, paid professional development, on-site interpreters, childcare, educational and wellness training, and a community devoted to supporting one another. Every member of our team has been and will continue to be women of color, trans, gender non-conforming, intergenerational, queer, working-class folx, and/or immigrants and refugees. Our work is centered on redesigning fashion industry supply chains and crafting a model for structural change at the manufacturing level.
