Vera Wang Spring 2020 Bridal

Brides will go to great lengths to look perfect on their big day—and understandably so—but leave it to Vera Wang to offer a refreshing alternative. For Spring 2020, the designer created gowns that were purposely asymmetrical and applied a rare 360-degree view to the wedding dress (versus the usual front and back). Drawing inspiration from cubist paintings, Wang’s new collection offered an element of surprise from every angle, as the fanciful dresses seemed to take on a different silhouette at every turn. Fittingly, when the models floated about the Vera Wang showroom, they had the perfectly imperfect, mussed-up hair to match.

Wang had fun playing with volume and scale. Many of the gowns came adorned with larger-than-life silk organza flowers, which were handmade and thoughtfully arranged as collars, sleeves, petticoats, and corsages. The color palette also ran wild. Playful pastels of lilac, periwinkle, and peony stood in stark contrast to subversive shades of slate, sage, and burgundy.

Even those that appeared in more traditional hues were pure showstoppers. The finale dress, for instance, featured a beige tulle skirt with an exposed ivory corset and a single draped sleeve, delivering a bold flash of bare skin at the back. The overall effect oozed relaxed glamour— perfect for the unconventional bride looking to wear a true work of art.
