Reem Acra Bridal Fall-Winter 2019

Bridal designers are finding new freedom in a seemingly limitless lease on color. Never in recent memory has there been a more compelling time for brides to consider experimenting with different hues.

Witness Reem Acra, who staged her show at the New York Public Library featuring a set designed with event planner extraordinaire Preston Bailey.

Acra has long championed a more-is-more aesthetic down the aisle. For fall 2019, that meant color, color, color!

In a testament to the freedom that comes with drawing outside of historically white, cream, and ivory lines, Acra aptly titled her collection “Celebration.”

“It’s about celebrating women, their power, their beauty, and their femininity,” Acra explained backstage prior to the show “You don’t have to always get married in a white ballgown–there’s a new nuance of brides today.”

Beyond the big white dress, Acra moved her paintbrush to pastel veils and tea-length tulle dresses befitting a pitch-perfect bridal party color palette. “It’s a new way of thinking for brides,” offered the designer. “It’s the woman of tomorrow.”

Acra has been hip to bold hues since early on in her decades-long career. “I’m getting back to my roots!” she said.

For those women who wouldn’t dream of embracing color on their big day, fret not: Acra also covered the more traditional side of the bridal color spectrum with “Celebration.”
