There is perhaps no fashion brand more distinctly American than Ralph Lauren. For 56 years, Ralph Lauren’s design ethos has been inspired by the lands, cultures and artistry that make up the fabric of America. Aligned with our commitment to reexamine what and who is included in our depiction of the American experience, more recently the brand has been on a journey to amplify diverse stories and form creative partnerships within the communities that have historically inspired our designs. Now, the brand has launched their first Artist in Residence collaboration, the Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses Collection.
The brand tapped seventh-generation Diné (Navajo) weaver Naiomi Glasses on a collection launching in three parts, now through next year. The collection, created in collaboration between Naiomi and the Polo Ralph Lauren design teams, seeks to celebrate Navajo tradition, craft and culture – especially the legacy of Navajo weaving, which has been safeguarded by families like Naiomi’s for centuries.
Focused on the celebration and preservation of heritage craft, the Artist in Residence program builds collaboration with the artisans that sustain traditional craft. The program invites artisans to create a product collaboration with our teams in a mutually beneficial exchange, combining the unique skill and point of view of the artisan with our core brand sensibilities. The project also allocates a percentage of the purchase price from Artist in Residence collection sales to organizations benefiting the artist’s broader community.
The collaboration will support Change Labs, a Native-led organization focused on fostering the creation of successful Navajo and Hopi small businesses.
