Always a bride, never a bridesmaid – such was the case with Elizabeth Taylor. The legendary, Hollywood starlet – her multiple marriages, her hypnotically beautiful violet eyes – were part of the story for Elie Saab this season.
He presented his Fall 2019 Bridal collection on Thursday in a Midtown West space within the late actress’s former mansion, which stands intact but vacant. Saab cited a storied love affair with architecture, not the actress, as the source of inspiration for this collection (for what it’s worth, Taylor shared the designer’s admitted weakness for the real estate).
Saab’s appreciation for design was seen in the sharp silhouettes, geometric symmetry, and elongated lines that ran all throughout. Several dresses were cinched with a clever belt placed high above the waist–an accessory that is pure and signature Elie Saab (and Elizabeth Taylor in her red-carpet days).
The jewel in the crown was the introduction of a diamond-shaped net fabric that added a brilliant sense of structure to iridescent floral guipure. Truly, a cut above the rest (and we think Mrs. Taylor would agree).
