Amirah Kassem began spreading the joy of sprinkles and sugar six years ago when she opened Flour Shop,  a bakery that specializes in colorful confectionaries. For Pride, the CFDA celebrated with one of Flour Shop’s rainbow explosion cakes to create a momentous occasion. We spoke to Kassem to find out how she started creating the unique experiences that Flour Shop offers and what’s on the horizon.

What is one piece of advice that you would give someone who is at the start of creating a company?

Start with something you love and know. You shouldn’t have to change who you are to be successful, and don’t look at what your competitors are doing — focus on what your gut tells you to do!

Why did you decide to start Flour Shop?

I started baking with my mom at a young age, but it was six years ago when I decided to actually turn this magical fun into a business! I love baking and playing with food, so naturally, I started posting my creations on Instagram and it took off from there.

What moment, in your career or personal life, are you most proud of?

I would say my proudest career moment was opening the first Flour Shop store in SoHo, NYC. As for personal, it was definitely marrying the love of my life and business partner, Ross Harrow.

Tell us about your most memorable project?

I’m creating it right now!! I’m working on my book and it has been such a fun process. I can’t wait to share it with the world along with other top secret projects we’re working on!

What future goals do you have for Flour Shop?

Spreading joy through the power of sprinkles and expanding the birthday lifestyle!
