Willy Chavarria is Honored at the ACLU NYCLU LGBTQ+ Rights Reception

June 5, 2025

On June 3, Willy Chavarria and his brand and public relations team Purple PR were honored with the 2025 Liberty Award by the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) at their annual LGBTQ reception, which took place at the Bowery Hotel.

The CFDA member has been a longstanding partner of the non-partisan and non-profit unions by collaborating on their programs and apparel, speaking on panels and using his voice – especially during his New York Fashion Week runway shows – to advocate for the rights of trans and other queer people.

“During this Pride month of celebration, I am deeply honored to be recognized for using fashion, music and art to advocate for queer rights,” said Chavarria. “The great work of my team alongside my husband and myself has enabled us to share a message of empowerment for those under attack. The ACLU is a guiding light in helping us know what we can do and how to do it.”

The opportunity to celebrate queer pride, resistance, and community is imperative – especially in the current political climate that is challenging LGBTQ+ people.

We are proud to join the unions in celebrating Chavarria, who continues to engage his art and platform to spotlight the beauty and struggles of the LGBTQ+ community.

Congrats, Willy!
