Desert sand, white paper planets and stars lighting the sky, a life-size propeller paper plane that crashed in the center the space. Welcome to Thom Browne’s world of wonders. On Tuesday afternoon, the designer and CFDA Chairman imagined a wondrous tale to present his new collection: Two lost travelers meet…one has traveled far and wide across this planet…one has traveled farther. Enter legendary fashion muse and model Debra Shaw as the pilot, in a otherworldly patchwork jumpsuit with exaggerated shoulders, and a young prince in a gray flannel tweed dress beaded and embellished to perfection. Their journey through the desert was told through several groups, all dressed in glorious Thom Browne clothes: the Clocks, the Asteroids, the Elephant, the Special Rose, the Fox, and so on. Out came exaggerated proportions, deconstruction and reconstruction, and a kind of fashion ingenuity that is increasingly rare in all fashion capitals. Browne ended the show with his version of an angel, in all-white tweed with layers of silk jacquards and silks. Pure magic!
