In keeping with CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund tradition, the last stop before the grand finale on November 7 is a trip out west. On Tuesday night, the 10 finalists kicked off this leg of their journey in Los Angeles. Following presentations of their Instagram Challenge to CVFF judges such as Steven Kolb, Reed Krakoff, and Ken Downing, Instagram’s Head of Fashion Partnerships Eva Chen and Vogue’s Creative Digital Director Sally Singer celebrated with the designers at an al fresco cocktail party on the NeueHouse rooftop.
Few anticipated the drop in temperatures that can be so typical in the evenings here. The heat lamps on hand provided a welcome spot for finalists, including Ji Oh and Area designers Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg, who gathered underneath to keep warm. “We did our research,” Fogg said. “This heat lamp is the best one.”
Maryam Malakpour of NewbarK is a native of the city and didn’t have such concerns. “We know about layering in L.A.,” she said.
CVFF alums included Aurora James, Irene Neuwirth, Greg Chait, and Eva Zuckerman, who arrived later than she had anticipated. “I am very happy to just be here,” Zuckerman said. “My Uber got lost. I was just thinking how, two years ago, I would have had a heart attack. Now, I can just show up fashionably late.”
