“The weather is a bust but we are here to have fun.” This was overheard in the elevator at the not-yet-opened Dumbo House, where Swarovski celebrated the Emerging Designer nominees for the CFDA Fashion Awards on Wednesday. And fun it was!
Guests – including Kelela, Stacey Bendet Eisner, Lisa Salzer, Carly Cushnie, Marc Bouwer, Phillip Picardi, Kobi Halperin, Fernando Garcia, Devi Kroell, Amy Chan, Luis Fernandez and Rafe Totengco – enjoyed the sneak peek into Brooklyn’s newest hotspot, and fêted the 2018 Emerging Designer nominees: Aurora James, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Mike Amiri, Sander Lak, and Kristopher Brock (Laura Vassar Brock and Sander Lak could not make it). Diane von Furstenberg, who arrived with Nadja Swarovski, had a moment to catch up with Young Paris.
The fabulous music – from TLC’s Creep and Pet Shop Boys’s West End Girls to Aaliyah’s Rock the Boat – had some guests shimmying.
“It’s so good,” said Peter Som, scanning the views that span from the Brooklyn to the Manhattan Bridge.
In the end, the wet New York night indeed did little to dampen spirits. Quite the opposite was the case. “It’s almost better in the rain,” Young Paris offered, “because it makes you appreciate the beautiful interior.” And the chic crowd celebrating in it, of course.
