What does one do at a traditional Jewish Friday night dinner? You gather around the Shabbat table with family and friends (the more, the merrier), say prayers over wine (the sweeter, the better), and throw pieces of challah (aka braided bread) all while singing prayer songs.
This Paris Fashion Week, CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, British Fashion Council Chief Executive Caroline Rush, and the Hadida family – fashion-famous for the LECLAIREUR concept stores – co-hosted an intimate dinner to herald in the Shabbat.
Present in the beautiful space were, among others, luxury executive Sydney Toledano and his wife Katia, Suzy Menkes, Rosie Assoulin and her husband Max, Lisa Armstrong, Dana Thomas, Daniel Marks, Lauren Sherman, Benjamin Chemla, Benji Park, Mandi Lennard, Deborah Lyons, Daniel Winterfeldt, Natasha Cowan and Damian Samuels, Hilá Arshadnia, Nicole Zisman, Samuel Schler, and Michael Halpern and Carlo Feudo.
Armand Hadida led the prayers and sang Shabbat songs, while his son Michaël addressed guests with a message of community and peace followed by remarks from Rush.
“I am so honored to join the Hadida family and Caroline for a Shabbat dinner during Paris fashion week,” Kolb said. “This is a beautiful way to celebrate Jewish tradition and culture, which has had such an impact on American fashion, and I could think of nothing better than to break challah with all of you here.”
And that they did, followed by a dinner of scrumptious mezze including roasted eggplants with tahini and za’atar, a revisited fattoush salad, and salmon carpaccio with citrus fruits, and shredded lamb confit in a cumin crust or roasted sweet potato with beluga lentil cream and coconut milk.
