Life is full of twists and turns, happy accidents, and leaps of faith. Designer Shantall Lacayo knows this to be true. Coming off her Project Runway win earlier this year, she prepared her first ready-to-wear collection late October, which cosmically coincided with the birth of her second baby.

Titled “Rebirth,” the Spring-Summer 2023 debut continues to explore the native Nicaraguan designer’s Mesoamerican roots, presenting wooden-inspired shapes and cultural symbols which include lions, tigers, and crocodiles. Lacayo engaged local artisans from her country to create egg-shaped pieces throughout the collection which symbolize her personal and professional metamorphosis as a new mother and the start of a new chapter in business.

“I love to give my all so that my work is unique in every detail, from textiles, to buttons and jewelry,” said Lacayo. “I have a need to share the world that is inside of me.”

The collection will soon be available for pre-order on Shantall.com.
