Resonance Invests in 10 Black Designers Brands

Virtually every brand has been hit by the COVID-19 crisis. A complex supply chain has been interrupted; retailers that bought collections cancelled orders and returned merchandise, resulting in inventory stocking up.

Resonance, a sustainable fashion platform that aims to do things differently, provides step-by-step assistance to designers for every step in the development process, from fulfillment, development, customer service, managing how to build a collection, sampling, selling, and beyond.

Robert Tagliapietra and Jeffrey Costello of Costello Tagliapietra were among the first brands to work with the company after relaunching their business in 2016. “We came from the high-end womenswear market, where we were beat down by fabric leftovers, inventory, and choices we had to make economically that hindered the creativity,” said Tagliapietra. “Only being able to choose one print or one color. All these things that we would beat ourselves down with, in this new system don’t exist.”

Resonance is now launching a new program to help struggling businesses in the fashion community. Be Resonant, the latest initiative, offers $50,000 in cash and services to eligible brands – and they are specifically supporting 10 creators of color.

“This initiative came straight from the top. Our CEO Lawrence Lenihan said ‘this is a time when we are going to amplify voices. And in this case, they are going to be black voices. I have the ability to do this with ease, and it would be my joy to do this.’ This is something we’re doing in addition to our day jobs. We’re all so passionate about this,” said Nicole King, Resonance’s Design Director.

This is an investment in emerging businesses for Resonance. “It’s not just giving people a couple thousand dollars, its saying let’s invest this and put you on the path to success with this money. It’s all the different steps attached to that number that makes it priceless,” said Tagliapietra.

Apply to Be Resonant here. Applications are open until June 30th.
