For Scosha Woolridge, travel is the driving force behind her jewelry – and if you look closely enough, you’ll see bits and pieces of her experiences in every design. Her escapades through the Amazon while travelling in Brazil are reflected in the craft of her macramé braided bracelets, and her adventures in India is mirrored through the vibrancy of the precious gemstones that adorn her designs.

“My travels definitely inspire my jewelry,” Woolridge explained. “I still draw a lot from my times travelling through different countries. Meeting those people still has a big impact on my designs.”

For now, Australia native has found a home in Williamsburg, where her shop and studio are also located. I stepped through her cheerful store doors bright and early on a Tuesday morning to explore the world of Scosha – and was greeted by the designer herself, carrying a plate stacked with a colorful confection.

“It’s fairy bread!” she exclaimed in her endearing Aussie accent. The traditional Australian dessert that combines bread, butter, and sprinkles into one magical dish is a delectable indication that while you can take Woolridge out of Sydney, but you can’t take Sydney out of her.

The designer found her calling on a trip to Brazil years ago Along with rafting down rivers in the Amazon and learning Portuguese, earning the craft of macramé inspired her to start her own business. After a friend who was opening a store noticed her jewelry, Woolridge organically picked up her first wholesale client, and the business snowballed from there.

Now, Woolridge offers a wide selection of jewelry across multiple categories and in all shapes, sizes, colors, and price ranges. Her collection is perfect for the modern jewelry customer: someone who doesn’t think twice about wearing one of her signature hand-braided bracelets, which retails for $29, with a glistening 14-karat gold band ring with rose cut oval diamonds that sells for upwards of $12,000.

The wide price and style ranges are united by the signature Scosha jewelry aesthetic: colorful, delicate, exotic – and, overall, fun.

Woolridge’s label includes a collection for women, men, and kids. She launched fine jewelry in 2012, and even offers the option for customers to personalize their favorite Scosha pieces for an extra special touch.

Now just over an impressive 10 year mark in her business, the 2018 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist is looking towards the program to continue building her brand.

“The support and the mentorship from the people involved would be very beneficial,” Woolridge said. “It’s a great honor to be involved with the CFDA. I knew they would be able to help me get resources and some of the issues I was dealing with as a small business.”
