When Donna Karan sees a need – wherever in the world that may be– she wastes no time stepping up to help. It’s the designer’s philosophy of “dressing and addressing,” and her newest initiative, Style for Strength – Celebrating Our Heroes, perfectly makes the point.

Karan teamed up with Veteran Services USA Co-Founder Cheri Kaufman to launch a one-of-a-kind live auction of 19 unique pieces designed by a roster of top designers, including CFDA members Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, Rebecca Moses, Thom Browne, Michael Kors, Erin Beatty, Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Hillary Taymour, Rio Uribe, Bonnie Young, Rebecca Moses, Jonathan Cohen, Kobi Halperin, Vanessa Noel, and, of course, Karan herself via Urban Zen. Also taking part are designers Epperson, Peter Dundas, Frederick Anderson, Terry Singh, and Banna.

Each repurposed vintage military clothes and remade them in their own way.

The cocktail, fashion presentation and auction of these unique pieces will take place at Urban Zen at 705 Greenwich Street on Monday, June 5. The silent auction is now live at www.styleforstrength.com.

Sales from the auction will support the Veteran Services USA’s breakthrough post-traumatic stress (PTS) treatment. The treatment, called Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM), is aimed for those suffering from the debilitating effects of trauma, with over a 90 percent cure rate.
