CFDA Director of Professional Development Sacha Brown spoke with Georg Dauterman, President of Valiant Technology, about cybersecurity and how fashion brands who have an online presence can best prevent a cyber-attack.
In today’s data driven world, every business online is at risk through the internet, connectivity, and any piece of data or proprietary information a business has enables a potential threat of a cyber attack. Preventative measures before such an event can minimize the risk of irreversible damage to the overall operations of any company.
Dauterman advised that a company evaluates what data collection and intellectual property is the most valuable and invests in a security practice scalable to the size of the business.
Many common factors that put a business at risk include account compromise, phishing attacks, and breaches. A company can mitigate the risk by disrupting any kind of attack with multi-factor authentication and inventory or asset auditing. As Dauterman explained, “You can’t protect what you don’t know about.”
