Last Friday, BuzzFeed kicked off Pride Month with its second annual Queer Prom powered by Samsung hosted by Jazzmyne Jay Robbins and Curly Velasquez.
Queer Prom was established to provide an all-inclusive prom environment for LGBTQ juniors and seniors in high school. For the occasion, BuzzFeed selected a Queer Prom Court of five seniors, who were chosen from a nationwide application pool and flown into New York City from California, Massachusetts, Nevada, Ohio, and Philadelphia.
The Prom Court arrived to New York City before Queer Prom. The students went to Macy’s Herald Square, where each court member received a personal shopping experience through the MyStylist@Macy’s service. Macy’s My Stylist Sandra Okerulu pulled full “dream prom outfit” looks for the prom court students, gifted to them by the retailer. Their Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Kenneth Cole looks were perfect for the big night at Samsung 837, where they joined 200 students within the greater New York area in the Meatpacking District.
The night was filled with Samsung-powered photo opportunities and special guest appearances by Nico Tortorella, Jay Manuel, drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race and more, with performances by Mary Lambert and Starley, plus plenty of dancing!
