28 Black Fashion Forces: Marci Rodgers

February 26, 2019

Karyl J. Truesdale

With her contribution to Spike Lee’s highly- acclaimed film BlacKkKlansman, Marci Rodgers created a period masterpiece. A native of Chicago, Rodgers knew early on that costume design was her creative calling. She credits her success to her faith in God and her education from Howard University, Central Saint Martins, and the University of Maryland, respectively. Perseverance, sacrifice, chance encounters and mentoring led her to cross paths with Lee, and BlacKkKlansman, which won the Cannes Grand Prix award, was her first collaboration with the visionary filmmaker. We look forward to seeing Rodgers’ work on the second season of She’s Gotta Have It. Kudos, Marci!

Editor’s Note: In honor of Black History Month, we highlight some of the most influential forces in fashion, in no specific order. Their impact on the culture is undeniable – and we use this time to tip our hats off to their Black excellence.
