Thursday, Sept 8: HELLESSY
While there is certainly some color newness emerging in the shows for Spring/Summer 2017, what is also striking is the ongoing popularity of the quiet and calming pastel shades we’ve been seeing these last few seasons. However, it does not come as a surprise that in our increasingly volatile and unpredictable world consumers would continue to seek out colors that convey a message of reliability, reassurance and dependability. Following on the heels of PANTONE 15-3919, Serenity (FCR Spring 2016) and PANTONE 14-4122, Airy Blue (FCR Fall 2016) are this seasons’ pale blue shades. Long associated with the serenity, constancy and hope of a clear, cloudless blue sky the soothing blues provide us with the feeling of peace, tranquility and stability we are craving amongst the chaos.
Friday, Sept 9: MILLY
Moving into day 2 of NY fashion week, we continue to see a wide range of blues, including the classic navy, occasionally combined with the banner shades of red, yellow, and pink as well as a vibrant orange. Maritime blue stands out, especially so when decorated with an unanticipated touch of an exciting green taking your typical spring palette to a new level.
Saturday, Sept. 10: CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
At Christian Siriano, Aqua makes a beautiful cool statement with just enough heat coming from the orange that he has either combined refreshingly with white and gray or amplified with a vibrant blue.
Monday, Sept 12: CAROLINA HERRERA
A muted chambray like blue contrasted against this same blue hue with a metallic sheen on the shoes and a vibrant orange gloss on the lips makes a dramatic and very different statement at Carolina Herrera.
Tuesday, Sept 13: DENNIS BASSO
Unanticipated in a spring season Dennis Basso showcased variations of the brown family from beige and tan to taupe and deep chocolate, many in sheer and diaphanous fabrics.
Wednesday, Sept 14: MICHAEL KORS
Michael Kors counterbalanced a variety of exuberant colors including the hot pinks, vivid oranges and lively greens, with your core navies, browns, blacks and whites in an uplifting nod to retro.
